In the 1930s Tennessee residents were surprised by all the gardening they did. They decided to have a state flower. Later lawnmowers decided to join in and the iris was decided! The name iris means in Greek "Rainbow ". Referencing all the other colors of the iris.

The Mocking Bird was chosen as Tennessee's state bird in 1933. It was elected by the Tennessee's society. The Mocking bird can sing up to 200 songs! That is a lot of songs!
